Maame-Yaa Aforo is a Ghanaian-American director, writer, actress and producer born in a suburb of Minneapolis, Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Working mostly in the comedy space, her mission is to create art with authentic representation and compelling content. After graduating from Spelman College with a degree in Political Science she worked as a press staffer on Capitol Hill before moving to Los Angeles feeling strongly she could make a positive impact on the world by making people laugh and learn with her writing and performing. Maame-Yaa worked for prolific directors Gina Prince-Bythewood and Seth Gordon. She made her directorial debut with the short film brown paper pageant and directed a commercial for Kroger Foods. She consulted for an upcoming MTV reunion show to be released in September 2020 and is a host and producer of her improv troupe Obama’s Other Daughters’ podcast You Down? by Shondaland and iHeart Radio. Maame-Yaa is represented by United Talent Agency and managed by Artists First.
